Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Johan Budi handed over his resignation letter as the spokesperson of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK).

"I handed over my resignation letter today," Budi said here on Monday.

Johan Budi began working at the KPK in 2005; he was part of the Education and Public Service Directorate till 2009, after which he was appointed as the head of the Public Relations Bureau and also as the spokesperson.

"Due to the current situation in the KPK and also my position as the preventive deputy, I handed in my resignation as the KPK spokesperson," he remarked.

Budi was appointed the preventive deputy of the anti-graft body on October 17, 2014.

The board of chairmen of the KPK has yet to respond to his resignation as the spokesperson. The position has been temporarily taken over by the board.

This is not the first time Budi resigned from the post. He wanted to resign back in July 2011 when he was being accused of being party to a case of corruption by former general treasurer of the Democratic Party, Muhammad Nazaruddin.

Nazaruddin, who was convicted in a bribery case related to athletes dormitory, alleged that Budi had participated in a meeting at the Formula One Hotel in Jakarta along with KPKs Investigation Director Ade Raharja.

In addition, Budi had also stated that he wanted to focus on the selection process for chairmen of the KPK in 2011, in which he participated, and to give the KPKs internal affairs deputy discretion to investigate him.

However, one of the KPK chairmen at that time, Busyro Muqaddas, firmly rejected Budis resignation and asked him to continue his role as the KPKs spokesperson.
