"I come to meet the KPKs invitation. This is not a summon but an invitation to clarify my statements that I had given when I was invited to meet the members of the House of Representatives (DPR) Commission III on February 4, 2015," he affirmed.
Conversing with journalists shortly after arriving at the KPK building, he revealed that he had brought a bundle of credible documents substantiating his statements on Abraham Samads meetings with several PDIP and National Democrat (Nasdem) politicians prior to the presidential election.
Hasto was of the viewpoint that the documents he brought would pave way for the formation of the KPK ethics committee to evaluate Abraham Samads alleged meetings with the PDIP and Nasdem politicians.
"My visit is not aimed at weakening the KPK but at strengthening the anti-graft body by considering its heavy-duty role to combat corruption crimes. One of the KPK commissioners has allegedly violated the KPKs code of ethics," he reported.
Prior to his meeting with the Houses Commission III members, Hasto had briefed the journalists in a press conference on January 22, 2015, that Abraham Samad had conducted a series of meetings with PDIP and Nasdem politicians, including the one at the Capital Residence apartment, Jakarta.
The meetings were held to discuss about the nomination process of Abraham Samad as the vice presidential candidate for Joko Widodo, he stated, adding that Abraham Samad attended meetings veiled in a mask to conceal his face and a cap, so that the people would not easily recognize him.
Hasto divulged details about the meetings after the KPK commissioners named Commissioner General Budi Gunawan, the sole candidate for the Indonesian police chiefs post, a suspect in a corruption case on January 13, 2015.
The KPK investigators accused Budi Gunawan of receiving bribes through a suspicious transaction when he headed the Police Headquarters Career Planning Bureau during the 2003-2006 period and held other posts in the police.
Amid the conflict, certain elements in the society filed reports about the alleged wrongdoings of four KPK commissioners, including Abraham Samad and Bambang Widjojanto, to the police.
However, the only KPK commissioner who has, so far, been named a suspect by the police is Bambang Widjojanto.
In response to this ongoing conflict, Indonesian President Joko Widodo recently revealed that he would solve the issues arising due to the cancellation of Commissioner General Budi Gunawans inauguration as the police chief this week.(*)
