General Moeldoko said that until the conflict between the two law enforcement institutions does not compromise national security, the TNI will not step in.
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The conflict between the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) and National Police (Polri) is still normal, and hence, the TNI will not intervene, according to Indonesian Defense Forces (TNI) Commander General Moeldoko.

"We are a democratic country where such matters are a normal thing. In the political and legal context, such a stand-off is still within the propriety limit," General Moeldoko remarked at the TNI Headquarters in Cilangkap, East Jakarta, on Wednesday.

He said that until the conflict between the two law enforcement institutions does not compromise national security, the TNI will not step in.

"The TNI is not willing to involve itself or to be involved in matters beyond its domain. As long as it still concerns a legal problem, please handle it. If it has evolved into a high-intensity situation and disturbs national stability, then we will step in. As of now, it is still not intense," he affirmed.

According to the TNI chief, there is no party that can put a brake on it, and thus, the KPK-Polri stand-off would not surface.

However, he called on the people to lend support in accordance with their respective fields. The polemics should not result in a conflict that could, in the long run, harm national stability, particularly in the field of economy.

"We need to remind that this matter should not aggravate the conflict as we all do not need such a thing. It should not happen as it could create instability and disturb the national economy. Economic stability has a great impact on national stability. So, we hope that it will remain within the tolerable corridors and not exceed the limits," he emphasized.(*)
