"ISIS does not reflect true Islam whatsoever," the Peoples Consultative Assembly (MPR) Chairman Zulkifli Hasan said in the statement, following his meeting with the Jordanian Ambassador to Indonesia Walid Al Hadid on Tuesday.
Hasan noted that Islam in Indonesia is a tolerant religion that coexists in perfect harmony with other religions in the country.
The MPR chairman also expressed concern for the upheaval instigated by ISIS in countries in the Middle East, such as Egypt, Syria, Libya, and others.
"I am also concerned about the victims of violence in Jordan as a result of ISISs activities," Hasan stated.
Meanwhile, the Jordanian Ambassador said he is also against ISIS and admitted that the violent acts committed by ISIS do not reflect the true nature of Islam.
"Indonesia has smoothly passed the critical period of transition of power after the reform era. This is what we also expect to happen in the Middle Eastern countries," Hadid said.
He also agreed that unlike the current turbulence in Egypt and Syria, Indonesia is capable of functioning as a democracy and can overcome violence.
