His Majesty (King Abdullah II) personally received the special envoy of President Jokowi yesterday (March 18), and he accepted it as an important event, Ambassador al-Hadid stated in the Jordanian Embassy here on Friday.
However, al-Hadid could not say whether King Abdullah II himself will attend the conference that will be held in Jakarta and Bandung, West Java, on April 22-24.
Al-Hadid said it was too early to say because His Majesty received the invitation just on Tuesday (March 18).
In regards with the role of King Abdullah II in defending the true teaching of Islam as religiom of peace, tolerance and moderation, ambassador mentioned some His Majesty's initiatative including Amman Message, Common Words and the initiative of International Week of Harmony among Religions which was adopted by United Nations in 2010 and since then being celebrated every year in February all over the world.
President Jokowi sent former Foreign Affairs Minister Alwi Shihab as his special envoy to deliver the AAC invitation to the state leaders of Middle Eastern countries.
After Jordan, Alwi Shihab will visit Egypt to deliver President Jokowi's invitation to President Abdul Fattah al-Sisi on March 19-22.
The Asia-Africa Conference (AAC) was first organized in Bandung, West Java, on April 18-24, 1955, at the initiative of Indonesia, Myanmar (Burma), Ceylon (Sri Lanka), India, and Pakistan.
It was seen as a symbol of freedom from colonialism, besides remaining a symbol of the resurgence of Asian and African nations.
Some 29 countries representing more than half of the worlds population had sent their delegates to the conference.
On the 60th year commemoration of the AAC, Indonesia will hold various events starting with a Senior Official Meeting in Jakarta on April 19, Ministerial Meeting on April 20, Asia-Africa Business Summit on April 21, and Asian-African Leaders Summit on April 22-23.
The final event will be organized in Bandung on April 24, which will bring together leaders from the Asian and African continents to trace the conferences 60 years of history.
