"We are gathering data on the websites, which offer sex services. The authority to block websites is in the hands of the Kominfo," Polri Spokesman Insp. Gen. Anton Charliyan noted here on Monday.
He remarked that it is difficult to eliminate prostitution through online services. Operators of online sex services can easily open new ones if their websites are blocked.
"There are difficulties such as the emergence of new websites if the ones offering sex have been closed," the Polri spokesman pointed out.
With regard to clandestine prostitution being carried out in entertainment places, lodging and boarding houses, the Polri has called for better cooperation with the public and to report it to the agency.
In order to reduce the number of prostitution-related cases, he affirmed that the Polri is now intensifying its operations in various places.
Online prostitution has now come under the radar following the murder of Deudeuh Alfisahrin.
Deudeuh alias Tata was found dead in a rented room in Jalan Tebet Utara, South Jakarta, on Saturday (April 11).
Her naked body was recovered, with socks gagged in her mouth and wires entangled around her neck. The suspected killer is believed to have been a client of the deceased.(*)
