Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Indonesian President Joko Widodo officially closed the Asian-African Summit, held as part of events commemorating the 60th anniversary of the first Asian-African Conference (AAC), here on Thursday.

The summit was closed after the three main documents of the AAC, which began on April 19, were adopted.

"The three main documents that were formulated in a series of meetings held in the last few days for adoption include the Bandung Message, the New Asian-African Strategic Partnership, and the Declaration on Palestine," President Joko Widodo said in his closing speech.

He affirmed that the framing of these documents had been carried out transparently and inclusively, having taken into account the interests of all parties involved. He also added that the concept produced reflected the Bandung principles and views, as well as interests of all participants of the conference.

"The conference we organized is one of the biggest intergovernmental forums in the world, besides the United Nations, which was attended by representatives from Asian and African countries and a number of observers," he pointed out.

Furthermore, Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe stated that the results of the conference had been added in the three documents, and hoped that participants of the conference agreed that it had been a success, as reflected by the presence of leaders from the two continents.

"Its success was reflected in the spirit to support Palestinian independence in all sessions. There is no doubt that this conference was historic like the first one in 1955," he remarked.

President Mugabe also expressed appreciation for being given the opportunity to co-host the event with President Joko Widodo.

"I wish to thank the people of Indonesia for their friendliness and hospitality. I pray that participants of the conference return home with beautiful memories," he noted.

The heads of states/governments attending the summit are scheduled to participate in a historic walk in Bandung, West Java, where the first AAC was held in 1955.(*)
