Minister Ignasius noted that the fixed and regular sea toll lane will connect Panjang port of Bandarlampung in Lampung province to Tanjung Perak port in Surabaya, East Java.
He remarked that the Bandarlampung-Surabaya route is served by a roll-on roll-off (ro-ro) vessel that can carry 200 trucks and passengers at a maximum speed of 16 knots per hour and takes 29 hours to arrive in Surabaya.
"This system of marine transportation is expected to have a positive impact on the economic growth in Sumatra and Java islands and to reduce vehicular traffic on the road connecting Lampung to Surabaya," he explained.
The transportation minister noted that the new mode of sea transportation is the first marine toll road to become operational in Indonesia in accordance with the governments long-term program to transform Indonesia into a global maritime axis.(*)
