The embassy in Yemen still operates but is controlled from outside Sana`a."Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Some 1,194 Indonesian nationals are still in Yemen, mostly in places considered safe, Indonesian Ambassador to Yemen Wajid Fauzi stated.
"Some 1,194 Indonesian citizens are still in Yemen. But, we estimate that around 250 Indonesians are not registered. They have not had the opportunity to report about their presence (to the embassy)," the envoy noted here on Thursday.
Most of them, who are still in Yemen, are staying in relatively safe cities such as Tarim and Al Mukalla, according to Fauzi.
However, if the situation deteriorates and affects the two cities, they will be evacuated, he added.
The Indonesian embassy is still operational but no longer in Sanaa as the building was destroyed in airstrikes by the Saudi Coalition.
"The embassy in Yemen still operates but is controlled from outside Sanaa. The embassys control has been moved to a safer place in Al Hudaida, Yemen," the ambassador revealed.
In this situation of an ongoing war, nobody can guarantee the safety of anyone, both Yemeni and foreigners in Yemen, he noted.
In the beginning of the war earlier this year, the Indonesian foreign ministry had announced that some 4,159 Indonesian citizens lived in Yemen, of which 2,626 were students, 1,488 were professionals working in oil and gas companies, and 45 were embassy staff and their families.
