Officers will evaluate their immigration documents."Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Jakarta police officers have sent 33 Chinese nationals suspected to be part of a cybercrime syndicate to the South Jakarta Immigration Office.
"Officers will evaluate their immigration documents," Head of South Jakarta Immigration Chief Cucu Koswala stated in Jakarta on Thursday.
Dozens of Chinese nationals will face temporary detention in the South Jakarta Immigration Office until the immigration administration completes the required formalities.
However, Koswala could not confirm whether the South Jakarta Immigration officials will deport these foreigners.
Earlier, Jakarta Police raided a house in Jalan Kenanga number 44 RT 07/02 Cilandak Timur Pasar Minggu, South Jakarta, on Wednesday, at around 8 p.m. local time.
The house was inhabited by 33 Chinese citizens comprising 14 women and 19 men.
The police suspect that these foreigners are part of the cybercrime syndicate involved in conducting online fraud and were targeting the fellow Chinese citizens residing in mainland China.
Besides this, the police also suspect that some foreign nationals in the vicinity had been victims of human trafficking.
The Jakarta Police is coordinating with the Directorate General of Immigration of the Ministry of Justice and Human Rights, the Embassy of the Peoples Republic of China in Indonesia, and the Indonesian Polices Cyber Crime Investigation Bureau.
