"If we block 100 websites today, tomorrow some 200 other new websites will crop up," Minister of Communication and Informatics Rudiantara said.
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Ministry of Communication and Informatics announced on Tuesday that around 800 thousand websites containing pornographic content have been blocked.

Although hundreds of thousands of websites containing pornographic content have been blocked, there is still a rampant increase in the number of adult content websites on the internet, Minister of Communication and Informatics Rudiantara stated here at the Vice President Office on Tuesday.

"If we block 100 websites today, tomorrow some 200 other new websites will crop up," Rudiantara pointed out.

The minister noted that the society can participate in the governments program to block pornographic sites by reporting any websites having abusive content on the internet.

Moreover, the ministry will cooperate with the National Police to block websites that offer prostitution-related services.

With regard to clandestine prostitution being carried out in places of entertainment, and lodging and boarding houses, the National Police has sought better cooperation from the public to report such acts to the agency.

Online prostitution has now come under the radar following the murder of Deudeuh Alfisahrin, who was found dead in a rented room in North Tebet Road, South Jakarta, on Saturday (April 11).

Her naked body was recovered, with socks gagged in her mouth and wires entwined around her neck.

The suspected killer is believed to have been a client of the deceased.

The minister claimed that rampant prostitution using online services was being conducted using various social media platforms such as Twitter, Facebook, and Blackberry Messenger.

"It is easy to block internet websites propagating prostitution services, but those operating through social media are hard to find," he emphasized.

Meanwhile, Deputy Assistant of the National AIDS Prevention Commission Haliq Sidiq stated that Indonesia ranked third in the list of countries accessing pornographic content.

"The data was revealed by a survey conducted by Google in which India ranked first," Sidiq claimed.

The high number of people accessing websites containing pornographic content was one of his key concerns.

Sidiq added that websites containing pornographic content may offer prostitution services that can increase the chances of spreading AIDS.(*)
