Singapore (ANTARA News) - Gunshots were fired during a struggle between a police officer and the suspect he had been escorting at a hospital in Singapore on Saturday evening, police confirmed.

The police officer had escorted a 24-year-old Singaporean man who had been arrested earlier to Khoo Teck Puat Hospital to seek medical attention after he complained of chest pains. The man attempted to escape in the hospital and struggled with the officer. At about 7:05 p.m. shots were fired.

The suspect was brought under control quickly and remains in police custody. Police said the situation is under control and the public were not in any danger at any time.

The accused Singaporean sustained superficial injuries, while the 31-year-old officer sustained gunshot wounds to his thumb and foot.
