PGN has built more than a total of 6,100 kilometers of gas pipelines all over Indonesia ..."
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Publicly traded state gas distributor PT Perusahaan Gas Negara (PGN) is building gas pipelines totaling 72 kilometers in length in East Java.

Corporate secretary of PGN Heri Yusup in Jakarta, said Tuesday, construction of the gas pipeline will add to the pipeline of 829 kilometers PGN already has in that province.

"PGN has built more than a total of 6,100 kilometers of gas pipelines all over Indonesia or 70 percent of gas upstream pipelines in the country," Heri said.

He said the new gas pipelines being built in East Java consist of three lines for gas distribution networks.

The three lines are Kejayan-Purwosari (15 km) in Pasuruan, Kalisogo-Waru (30 km) in Sidoarjo, and Jetis-Ploso (27 km) in Sidoarjo.

By the end of June 2015, work was already 86 percent completed in the Kejayan-Purwosasi distribution pipes.

The distribution pipes has the capacity of distributing 5 million cubic feet of gas per day (MMSCFD) to serve subscribers in southern part of the regency of Pasuruan.

"The pioneering system is expected to open new economic opportunity in the area of Pasuruan," Heri said.

Meanwhile work in the Jetis-Ploso pipeline was 37 percent completed by the end of June.

"This line would serve to distribute gas for industries such as animal feed factories, food and beverage, and ceramic factories and new industrial estate," Heri said.

The Kalisogo-Waru pipeline would be used to improve the effectiveness of networks and safety.

In the future, construction of pipe networks would be made complete with "offtake station" in Pasuruan to increase the effectiveness of the networks in East Java.

Currently, PGN Regional Distribution II covering East Java and Central Java, serves nine industrial estates with 118 subscribers.

"It is expected that construction of the new gas infrastructure encourage development of new industrial estates," he said.

Heri said the nine industrial estates need 28 MMSCFD with gas energy efficiency of Rp2.06 trillion per year compared with the use of diesel oil.
