It was a fun and amazing experience," Australian tourist John Alf said.Kuta, Bali (ANTARA News) - Foreign tourists participated in Indonesias 70th Independence Day celebrations by taking part in a garbage cart pulling competition held at Kuta Beach, Bali Province on Monday.
Several foreign tourists, who are visiting Kuta Beach, were seen enjoying the event organized by the Garden and Cleanness Office of Badung District, Bali.
During the competition, each participant is supposed to collect garbage that has been strewn on the Kuta Beach and deposit it on the the cart. This generates awareness among the locals and foreigners about the need for garbage disposal and maintaining cleanliness.
Australian tourist John Alf said the independence day celebrations in Bali included various other competitions, which were fascinating.
"I joined the cart competition because I was interested in pulling the cart and picking up some garbage. It was a fun and amazing experience," John said.
Even though he felt tired, John still celebrated the Indonesian Independence Day with spirit, including partaking in the many other entertainments organized for the locals and foreign tourists in Bali during the day.
"Though I did not win in any competition, I am proud that I was able to entertain the Balinese people. I do plan to follow the competitions next year," John added.
Additionally, the Secretary of the Garden and Cleanness Office of Badung District, Anak Agung Gede Taman, said the celebration was aimed at boosting peoples awareness about the need for maintaining cleanliness and discouraging the practice of littering.(*)
