Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia's National Police (Polri) Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo has pledged to thoroughly address all issues arising from recent violent protests, assuring the public that each case will be handled transparently.

He made the statement after the death of an online motorcycle taxi (ojek) driver, who was struck by a police tactical vehicle during a demonstration on Thursday.

"We will hold a meeting on this. What's clear is that we will address everything one by one," Listyo said in Jakarta on Friday.

Speaking about the incident, Listyo confirmed that the case is being investigated seriously by the authorities. He added that disturbances at the Mobile Brigade (Brimob) headquarters would also be handled accordingly to maintain public order.

"There will always be a process. We will continue to conduct evaluations," he said.

Listyo also issued an apology to the victim's family, the ojol driver community, and the wider public.

"Once again, we offer our deepest apologies for what happened. On behalf of Polri, we express our sincere regret," he said.

The protest was triggered by a rally at the Parliamentary Complex that ended with the death of 21-year-old Affan Kurniawan, the ojol driver, who was run over by a Brimob tactical vehicle in widely circulated videos.

Head of Polri’s Professional and Security Division (Propam), Inspector General Abdul Karim, confirmed that seven Brimob officers inside the vehicle had been questioned. He assured the public that the investigation would be carried out transparently.
