Jakarta (ANTARA News)- A helicopter EC-130 carrying five people on board, lost contact with traffic air control during a flight in North Sumatra Province on Sunday at 12.20 p.m. local time.

"The helicopter was flying from Siparmahan or western coast of Lake Toba, to KualanamU via Pematang Siantar," Hemi Pramurahardjo, spokesman of the transportation ministry, said in a statement on Sunday.

The chopper belonging to PT Penerbangan Angkasa Semesta (PAS) was piloted by Captain Teguh Mulyanto. Technician Hari Poerwantono and three passengers - Nurhayanto, Giyanto and Frans, were also on board the ill-fated helicopter.

"The status of the helicopter is uncertain, meaning that it might not be losing contact. There are efforts to find it. It might be diverted from its route or something," he said.

The Medan airport authorities and the Medan Search and Rescue team are making coordination to look for the missing chopper.
