The president landed in Amsterdam on Wednesday at about 6:15 a.m. local time and will stay for two hours at the Schiphol Airport prior to making another transit trip to Abu Dhabi before flying home.
The president and First Lady Iriana Jokowi were welcomed by Deputy Chief of Mission Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia to Netherlands Ibnu Wahyutomo, Defence Attache Col. Edy Sulistyadi, and several officials of the Foreign Ministry.
President Jokowi had to cut short his state visit to the United States due to the alarming smoke condition from the forest and land fires affecting several of Indonesias main islands.
After meeting the United States President Barack Obama, Jokowi canceled a series of agenda in San Francisco and assigned relevant ministers to continue the state visit as planned.
According to plans, the president and his entourage will fly directly to Palembang, South Sumatra, to review the condition of the hotspots.
The president will be in Palembang, South Sumatra, for about two days to simultaneously monitor the smoke disaster management efforts.
The president is accompanied by Minister of Foreign Affairs Retno L.P. Marsudi, Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Sudirman Said, and Presidential Chief of Staff Teten Masduki.(*)
