The opening of the embassy in 2014 and the extension of credentials of its ambassador to the President were carried out in September 2015, according to a press statement from the foreign ministry received here on Sunday.
Irelands foreign minister Charles Flanagan confirmed the report during a meeting with his Indonesian counterpart Retno LP Marsudi on the sidelines of the 12th Asia-Europe Meeting in Luxemburg on November 5.
At the meeting between the two countries foreign ministers, which was the first, foreign minister Retno had asked for Irelands support to Indonesias request for a free visa facility for its citizens to visit Schengen countries.
In response the Irish foreign minister pledged he would give positive consideration to the request.
At the meeting the Irish foreign minister also said that the Irish government would send its ambassador to represent his country at the Bali Democracy Forum to be held in Bali on December 9-10.
Minister Retno had used the 12th ASEM from November 4 to 6 to conduct bilateral meetings. She has held around 13 bilateral meetings with her counterparts from among others Ireland, the Netherland, Luxemburg, Belgium, Greece and Germany. ***2***
