The victims are believed to have been swept away by strong currents flowing from nearby paddy fields into their neighborhood, said Commissioner Anak Agung Gede Rai Darmayasa, head of Mengwi Police.
The missing family members are identified as Rio Hatnar Boelan (56), his wife Dewi Ratnawati Soenarjo (57), and their son Riviere Timothy George Wicaksono Boelan (23). Their daughter, Ruth Deidree Marie Korin Boelan (27), was in Denpasar when the floods hit.
Ruth told police that she had tried contacting her parents the night before the incident but received no response. When she returned home, she found their house was completely swept away and reported the incident to the Badung Police.
A joint search-and-rescue team consisting of the Badung Water Police, Bali's National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas), the Indonesian Red Cross (PMI), and local residents is currently scouring the area.
The family's residence is located near a river flowing into Mengening Beach. Neighbors said the river was originally a drainage channel for farmland but had widened into a small river over time.
Rescue workers found the family's motorbike near the site of the destroyed house. Two excavators have been deployed to clear debris, while teams are also searching along the river for signs of the missing family.
