Bogor (ANTARA News) - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) said he wanted to finish scrapping at least 50 percent of unproductive restrictive, inflexible regulations next year.

Over the past few months, the government has issued seven new economic policy packages marked with deregulation, to draw more foreign investment and to boost exports in a bid to avert the impact of global crisis.

Jokowi said he heard there are 42,000 regulations including presidential, government and ministerial regulations.

"Complicated regulations put us in shackles , and make us inflexible unable to jump," Jokowi said when opening a cabinet plenary session here on Tuesday.

The session had in agenda four issues - simplification of budget nomenclatures, priority program and utilization of budget in 2016; agenda carried over from 2015, and anticipation of possible problems in the implementation of the first election for regional leaders held (Pilkada)at once

He told his ministers to gather all government regulations and if necessary presidential regulations are abolished.

"Our orientation is the end result not procedures . Once again, our orientation is target not the other way around," he said.

He asked his minister to be focused on their duties and "dont get busy as commentators."

"I want to remind you a number of things- first there are only three weeks to go to end this year. We have gone a full year. This we will evaluate," he said.

In 2016 , the government has to move faster, he said.

"I dont want us to get trapped in routine activities, business as usual, monotony. We must bring about new tradition , new pattern, and new method, he said.

"We must have the courage to turn upside down that our orientation is not procedure . We are oriented to the end result," he repeated.(*)
