Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Ade Komarudin, senior politician of Golkar Party was sworn in as House Speaker at a plenary meeting of the House of Representatives (DPR) on Monday, replacing Setya Novanto.

Setya Novanto, who is also from Golkar, stepped down in disgrace as House Speaker after the House Ethic Council found him guilty of violation of ethical code.

Komarudin who was born in Purwakarta, West Java on May 20, 1965, joined the House of Representatives (DPR) since 1997.

Komarudin was proffered by Golkar Executive Board as the results of the partys National Conference in Bali, with its general chairman Aburizal Bakrie or ARB.

Agung Laksono was elected general chairman of rival faction in a congress in Ancol, North Jakarta, after earlier in Bali the other faction elected incumbent Aburizal Bakrie to lead the party for another five years.

Previously the government recognized only the party under Agung Laksono but the court ordered for the cancellation of the decision, leaving the party without legal leadership.

Aburizal Bakrie and his followers held a meeting in Bali recently and decided to reject the idea of holding congress before 2019.(*)
