Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Senior Officials Meeting (SOM) of the 5th Extraordinary Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Summit held behind the closed door here on Sunday bears fruit to Indonesias hard work.

The SOM agreed to Indonesias proposal for outcome documents in the form of resolution and declaration, Director General of Multilateral Affairs at the Foreign Ministry Hasan Kleib said a moment before accompanying Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi at a ministerial level meeting.

Kleib who chaired the SOM said all draft resolutions and declarations were agreed upon at the meeting with several changes.

"There is no fundamental change. Only a few things were added or omitted following a general debate among chiefs of delegations," he said.

The discussion of the Indonesian proposal at the ministerial meeting will be faster than expected as it has been agreed upon at the SOM, he said.

Indonesia has proposed two documents as the outcome of the 5th Extraordinary OIC Summit on Palestine and Al Quds, namely resolution which will contain OIC fundamental stand on Palestine and declaration in the form of OICs concrete step to help Palestine.

The meeting also discussed the adoption of OIC agenda and work program, the consideration and adoption of draft agenda and work program of a ministerial preparatory meeting, and the consideration of draft Jakarta resolution and declaration on Palestine and Al-Quds Al Syarif.

The SOM was followed by a ministerial meeting at 02.00 p.m. local time. Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno LP Marsudi, Palestinian Foreign Minister Riyad al-Maliki, and OIC Secretary General Iyad Ameen Madani delivered their opening addresses to the meeting.

At the meeting, the OIC foreign ministers will discuss the adoption of the agenda and work program of ministerial level meeting, reports from the SOM, and the consideration and adoption of the Extraordinary OIC Summits work program before entering a general debate.

On the first day of the fifth Extraordinary OIC Summit on Sunday, the Indonesian and Egyptian governments agreed to bring the outcome of the meeting to the UN.

"We intend to continue our cooperation with Indonesia in the future to raise the outcome of this meeting and a wide range of issues related to the Palestinians rights to UN sessions and other international meetings," Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Soukry said following a bilateral meeting.

However, he did not divulge what impact the OIC can expect or the step the OIC will take now that the question of Palestine has many times been discussed in UN sessions.

On the other hand, he underscored the significance of the extraordinary meeting for Palestine.

"This meeting is very important stand to demonstrate the Islamic worlds solidarity with Palestinian state which declared its independence in 1967," he said.

Egyptian Prime Minister Sharif Ismail opened the fifth Extraordinary OIC Summit although Indonesia is hosting it. Egypt is still the chair of the 12th OIC Summit before transferring its chairmanship to Turkey in April.

On the occasion, Soukry praised Indonesia which invited not only OIC member states and observer countries but also members of the Middle East Quartet and permanent members of the UN Security Council.

"Indonesia has invited all sides so that we will be able to combine our steps to support Palestine in the negotiation process," he said.

On Sunday evening, President Joko Widodo is set to hold a meeting with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas.

According to Palestinian Ambassador to Indonesia Fariz Mehdawi, President Mahmoud Abbas wants to express his gratitude to Indonesia for its readiness to host the Summit.
