The OIC Summit adopted two essential documents, one of them is Indonesia-initiated Jakarta Declaration containing the OIC leaders` plan for a concrete action to resolve the question of Palestine and Al-Quds Al-Sharif.
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) unveiled a number of concrete steps achieved at the fifth Extraordinary Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Summit on Palestine and Al-Quds Al Sharif here on Monday.

"With this summit, the history will record that leaders of the Islamic world sent a strong message to all sides involved in the conflict in Palestine," President Jokowi said in his closing address to the summit at the Jakarta Convention Center.

The president underlined the urgency for the OIC to increase its support to Palestine through several concrete steps.

The first step is strengthening political support to revive the peace process.

In this regard, he underscored the need to review the Middle East Quartet by increasing the number of its members.

"Indonesia is ready to participate (in it) and support this mechanism," he said.

The OIC Summit brought together 657 representatives from 55 countries and two international organizations.

The second step involves putting further pressure on Israel, including boycotting goods produced in the occupied land, he said.

The third step will be to pressurise the United Nations Security Council into providing international protection to Palestine and setting a deadline to end the Israeli occupation, he said.

The fourth step will be a firm rejection of any restriction on Palestinians access to Al-Aqsa Mosque and of Israeli action to change the status quo and demography of Al-Quds Al-Sharif, he said.

The fifth step will be to fulfill urgent humanitarian needs, he said.

In addition, the OIC Summit also adopted two essential documents.

One of the two documents is a resolution reiterating the OICs principles and commitment to Palestine and Al-Quds Al-Sharif.

"Hopefully, this resolution will be relevant to the wish of the Palestinian people," he said.

The other document is Indonesia-initiated Jakarta Declaration containing the OIC leaders plan for a concrete action to resolve the question of Palestine and Al-Quds Al-Sharif.

"I feel happy and warmly welcome the fact that this summit has successfully endorsed the two crucial documents," he said.

Indonesia is ready to cooperate with other nations to support the implementation of the declaration, he said.

"In the past couple of days, I really felt the Islamic worlds full support to and solidarity with Palestine. I also feel happy with the fact that leaders of the Islamic world have agreed to work more closely to voice their support for the people of Palestine once again," he said.

The OIC Summit brought together 657 representatives from 55 countries and two international organizations. (*)
