"We will conduct a research on Fort Van den Bosch for the second time next year," a researcher of Defense Facilities From the Second World War Muhammad Chawari stated here on Monday.
According to Chawari, the Fort Van den Bosch along with Fort Vastenburg in Surakarta in Central Java and Fort Vredeburg in Yogyakarta are defense buildings constructed during the Dutch colonial period in Indonesia.
"The fort from the Dutch colonial era during the Second World War in Ngawi is similar to the one found in Solo (Central Java) and Yogyakarta," he pointed out.
Chawari remarked that the Archaeology Center had earlier conducted a research on Japanese defense facilities, such as bunkers and caves, in the provinces of Yogyakarta, Central Java, and East Java.
"The research work on Japans defense facilities has been completed. We will just prepare a report, and it will serve as a scientific journal for learning," Chawari revealed.
The research on Japanese war facilities has been conducted in Sleman and Bantul in Yogyakarta; Purworejo, Cilacap, Kebumen, Brebes, Tegal, Banyumas, Jepara, Kudus, and Pati in Central Java; and Lumajang, Jember, Banyuwangi, and Madura in East Java, among others.
"There are several caves and bunkers from the Japanese colonial era that have not yet been explored. Many of them have not been exposed, especially the ones located on the hillside," he added.(*)
