Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The number of travelers going home by land to celebrate the post-fasting Eid Fitr or Lebaran festivities this year is expected to drop by 2.7 percent to 4.57 million from 4.7 million in 2015.

Director General of Land Transportation of the Ministry of Transportation Pudji Hartanto Iskandar said here on Friday that the downward trend was influenced by economic growth which increased the number of people in the middle class income group. They prefer to choose other modes of transportation, such as trains and airplanes.

"This means that the economy of most of the Indonesian people is improving as reflected in their preference to choose other modes of faster transportation although they have to pay higher cost," he said.

The post-fasting Lebaran holidays will take place from July 6-7, 2016. (*)
