"The chairman of the Patrons Council of Golkar Party for 2014-2019 is Aburizal Bakrie," the chairman of sessions of the partys congress, Nurdin Halid, said here late Monday evening.
The decision to name Aburizal as chairman of the Patrons Council was made following a proposal from the commissions meeting attended by representatives of the participants of the congress who consist of party leaders from provincial and district levels and Golkar Partys organizations.
The Patrons Council used to exist during the era of former president Soeharto but after he resigned it was dissolved and an advisory council was later established to replace it and it has remained until today.
Aburizal has earlier expressed readiness to hold the post if he received a mandate from the congress.
"If I am requested to I will be willing to take it," he said.
He said he would refer to the decision of the congress with regard to his authority as chairman of the patrons council.
He however assured that no overlapping would happen between the council that he will lead and the present advisory council.(*)
