"Sukabumi is one of the areas in Java that has been widely sending workers abroad. Thus, the average monthly remittances by the migrant workers can cross Rp50 billion, Service Manager of Sukabumis Post Office, Sudirman, stated here on Wednesday (June 1).
Data obtained from the Post Office revealed that the total remittances sent by Sukabumis migrant workers in January 2016 was some Rp55.7 billion, with 12,938 transactions, and in February, the figure reached some Rp54.1 billion through 13,040 transactions.
In March 2016, the amount of money received by the post office was Rp54.8338 billion through 13,643 transactions, and in April, the remittances totaled some Rp50.8 billion through 12,556 transactions. These amounts have increased compared to the remittances received in the same period last year.
Sudirman remarked that on an average, the amount of money sent by the migrant workers was some Rp1.5 billion-Rp2 billion.
It is forecast that during the month of Ramadan and before the Eid Fitr 1437 Hijr, the amount of remittances will increase by approximately 10 to 15 percent.
"To improve our services, we will also open some outlets in other branch offices in several districts, so the family members of migrant workers do not have to go as far as Sukabumi," he added.(*)
