"The strong earthquake was experienced for three to five seconds in West Sumbawa and Bali. People ran out of their houses," Nugroho stated in a press release received here on Thursday.
He informed that the quake was centered at a depth of 10 kilometers in the sea, 286 kilometers southwest of West Sumbawa or 308 kilometers southeast of Klungkung, Bali.
No tsunami warning was issued as a result of the earthquake. Moderate shocks were also felt in East Lombok, he added.
The source of the earthquake lay in the path of the tectonic plates -- the Indian Australian Plate and the Eurasian Plate.
West Sumbawa felt a scale II intensity quake, as per Earthquake Intensity Scale Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics (SIG-BMKG).
In Kuta, the intensity of the quake was felt on scale II of the SIG-BMKG, while Mataram was scale II on the SIG-BMKG.
Previously, people of Bali also felt the 4.7 earthquake on Thursday at 9:40 pm with its epicenter located at 42 kilometers southeast of Klungkung, Bali at a depth of 109 kilometers.
