"Education is an investment in the future. It could have major implications for the development of a country, and Indonesia has the potential to develop this sector," Robert O Blake said in his farewell lecture here on Monday (July 18).
Presenting his view on certain aspects of Indonesia as he completed his term, Blake focused more on educational matters because, according to him, Indonesia needs to shore up its education sector to an international level.
He also advised the Indonesian government to establish stronger linkages with other countries, particularly those in the Asia-Pacific region.
"Indonesias position in the Asia-Pacific region is very strategic and it will profit more if the government establishes a more robust relationship," he stressed.
The Indonesian archipelago has endowed the country with great natural and cultural resources that make Indonesia wealthy.
In addition to a focus on improving the economy and reducing poverty, the Ambassador appreciated Indonesia for supporting world peace, overcoming terrorism, promoting free trade and ushering in international laws.
Blake is completing his term as US ambassador in Indonesia and will temporarily be replaced by Deputy Ambassador Brian McFeeters.(*)
