Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Indonesias Minister for Social Affairs Khofifah Indar Parawansa has launched a new hotline number to report abuse against children.

At an event held in Muara Angke harbor in North Jakarta on Tuesday where the new number was launched, the Minister introduced the Child Social Services Line (TePSA), which is 1-500-771.

"This number is easy to remember and is open round the clock for the public. The earlier hotline used to be functional only during office hours," she explained.

She hoped that this new line will encourage the public to report any acts of abuse towards children or if they happen to be in any situation where they may need help from local social services.

"The public is also welcome to consult us for any problem they face that affects the children. The goal is to speed up our services to tackle child abuse and offer consultation to people," she remarked.

At the event, themed One Day for Children (ODFC), the Minister also symbolically handed over 12 birth certificates to children who participated in the activity.

Minister Khofifah also distributed donations and gifts besides hosting a dialogue session with children.

The tagline "Senyum Anak Indonesia, Senyum Indonesia Masa Depan" (The smile of Indonesias children is Indonesias future smiling) marked the event which is expected to create a vast opportunities for Indonesias children and enhance their quality of life.(*)
