"In the case of Arcandra, I hope the President reviews his reappointment as the minister of energy and mineral resources," said Ahmad Sahroni, a member of Commission III on Legal Affairs of the House of Representatives (DPR), on the sidelines of an animal sacrifice event in Kebon Bawang, Tanjung Priok, North Jakarta, on Monday.
Since the Arcandra case came to the surface, many people have been questioning his dishonesty relating to his citizenship status, according to Sahroni.
In fact, if he was honest, he should have resolved the problem of his citizenship first before accepting the ministerial post (as minister of energy and mineral resources) offered by President Jokowi, he said.
Therefore, Arcandras actions concern his integrity, Sahroni, who is a politician of the National Democratic Party (NasDem), said.
Now people have already noticed that there was wrongdoing since the beginning, he added.
"It is dangerous for the integrity of the nation," he said.
"Do not be like a stand-up comedy (where participants) can get down the stage and get on again. This does not concern greatness, smartness or credibility, but integrity. There has been dishonesty from the beginning," said Sahroni.
If the President goes ahead and reappoints Arcandra, the public will see it as a second blunder by him. This is not good for public confidence, he added.
The president had earlier said that he was still considering whether he should reappoint Arcandra as minister of energy and mineral resources.
Earlier, the president had dismissed Arcandra from his position as minister of energy and mineral resources on August 14, 2016, because it was revealed that he had United States citizenship.
On September 1, 2016, Justice Minister Yasonna Laoly issued a letter reinstating Arcandras Indonesian citizenship.(*)
