This is a very proud achievement for us and the citizens of Indonesia ..."Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Gunadarma University students of the Garuda Team won second place at CanSat International Competition 2016, an international satellite design competition held by Asia-Pacific Space Cooperation Organization (APSCO) in UlaanBaatar, Mongolia.
"This is a very proud achievement for us and the citizens of Indonesia in general because for the first time, Gunadarma won the CanSat international competition," said supervisor Tim Garuda in Purnawarman Musa in a press release on Tuesday.
According to the National Institute of Aeronautics and Space (LAPAN), on Tuesday, the team attended a two-day briefing by the LAPAN satellite team, which is chaired by the head of the Satellite Technology Dissemination Centre Iwan Faisal at Center Satellite Technology.
The competition was held on September 21-22, 2016, and was organized by APSCO in collaboration with the Information Technology, Post and Telecommunication of Mongolia.
Garuda Team became the sole representative of the Indonesian team that competed with nine other participants from the APSCO member countries of Turkey, Peru, Indonesia and Mongolia.
On the occasion, the first place was won by the APIS team from Istanbul Technical University, Turkey, with only one point more than the Garuda Team. Third place was won by the Sky Defender Team of the Military and Defence University, Mongolia.
The Garuda Team arrived in Mongolia on Monday (Sept 19) and was accompanied by Eri Prasetyo Wibowo, representing various institutions from Gunadarma University.
The CanSat competition assesses the design and use of small satellites, such as satellites held in beverage cans. The competition saw participation from universities in various countries, including Mongolia, who was the host.
