"The seminar is aimed at distinguishing between administrative violations, disputes among participants and criminal acts during the elections," deputy Jakarta police chief Brig. Gen. Suntana said.
The Election Supervisory Agency (Bawaslu), police department and Jakarta prosecutors office should carry out their duties comprehensively to avoid security disruptions, he said.
The Jakarta police must secure South Tangerang, Tangerang City and Jakarta during the polls. Proper security measures can be taken only when the police know the election rules, he said, adding that they should understand what penalties and steps to take so that they can act clearly.
"In addition, the Bawaslu can investigate and disqualify candidate pairs if they violate rules," Suntana said.
The discussion was attended by Jakarta Election Supervisory Agency chairman Mimah Susanti, Bawaslu commissioner Muhammad Jufri and Jakarta General Elections Commissioner (KPU Jakarta) Sumarno.(*)
