President Joko Widodo laid a wreath near the body of King Bhumibol Adulyadej.
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Indonesian President Joko Widodo, flanked by First Lady Iriana, paid their final tribute to the late Thai King Bhumibol Adulyadej at the Grand Palace on Tuesday.

President Joko Widodo and First Lady Iriana arrived at the Dusit Maha Prasat Throne Hall, Grand Palace, at 2.05pm local time, and were welcomed by head of the Palace Household, Chirayu Isarangkun Na Ayuthaya and the Director General of Protocol of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Chakri Srichawana.

Afterwards, the President and the First Lady proceeded towards the Royal Urn, to pray for the king.

President Joko Widodo then laid a wreath near the body of King Bhumibol Adulyadej.

Before leaving the Grand Palace, President Joko Widodo and First Lady Iriana signed the book provided for the mourners at the Main Hall of Household Bureau.

At 2.20 local time, President Joko Widodo and First Lady Iriana and their entourage left for Wisma Indonesia at the Indonesian embassy in Bangkok.

A number of heads of state reached to pay their last respects to the late King Bhumibol, including the King of Bhutan, Jigme Khesar Namgyel and Queen Jetsun Pema, who came on October 15.

Singapores Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong and Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak came to the Grand Palace to pay their last respects on October 21 and 22.

Several other leaders are still to come to pay their last respects in the next few days.

Earlier, President Joko Widodo offered deep condolences on the demise of King Bhumibol.

"On behalf of the government and people of Indonesia, I extend deep condolences on the demise of King Bhumibol Adulyadej," the president said shortly after the Thai king was pronounced dead on October 13.

The president said the world has lost a leader who was close to his people.

In addition, he also saw King Bhumibol as a figure capable of bringing unity, reform and prosperity to the people of Thailand.

King Bhumibol Adulyadej died at the age of 88 after being on the throne for 70 years. He was seen as someone who contributed towards uniting the Thai nation.(*)
