The public should first clarify any information, because there are many hoaxes about the November 4 rally."Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Jakarta Metro Jaya Police has asked the residents of Jakarta not to be restless concerning the massive rally carried out by so-called National Movement of Guardians of Indonesian Ulema Councils Fatwa (GNPF-MUI) on Friday.
"The Police and the Indonesian Defense Forces (TNI) are ready to guard the protestors, the public should perform their activities as usual," Senior Commissioner Awi Setiyono, spokesman of the Jakarta police, said here on Friday.
The police and the military will maintain security and public order in line with the existing laws, he added.
He urged the protestors, as well as the public in general, not to believe provocative information.
"The public should first clarify any information, because there are many hoaxes about the November 4 rally," he added.
The massive rally, participated by thousands of Muslims from many cities across Indonesia, is themed "Peaceful Action to Defend Islam and To Demand for Justice and Legal Enforcement."
The protestors are expected to move to the Presidential Palace after Friday Mass prayers at noon.
The authorities have deployed some 18 thousand police and military officers to guard the peaceful rally being participated in by protestors not only from Jakarta but also from other cities.
Similar rallies were simultaneously staged in other cities such as Solo and Kudus in Central Java, Malang in Central Java, Kendari in Southeast Sulawesi, Makassar in South Makassar, Medan in North Sumatra, Padang in West Sumatra and Samarinda in East Kalimantan.
