I hope the general assembly should be able to express the global interest in protecting the public."Nusa Dua (ANTARA News) - Vice President M. Jusuf Kalla (JK) encouraged the strengthening of cooperation between International Police of member countries to ensure world peace.
"The cooperation of International Police is very important because it can create peace and security in the world," Jusuf Kalla said in his remarks during the 85th General Assembly of International Police (Interpol) here on Monday.
The vice president also urged the police and law enforcement agencies in the world to counter the threats among countries that happen continuously.
"Good cooperation between governments and law enforcement agencies, especially among members of the police in each country, can support economic development," he remarked.
With regard to terrorism, Kalla said that the exchange on intelligence information should be conducted accurately.
Terrorism is a major challenge to the world and the Interpol should enforce the law strictly, he said.
"I hope the general assembly should be able to express the global interest in protecting the public," he said.
Meanwhile, National Police Chief General Tito Karnavian explained that the assembly discussed terrorism, human trafficking and credit card fraud.
With regard to ISIS, the meeting also discussed the law enforcement and prevention of radical ideology, he said.
The conference was also attended by Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Wiranto; Home Affairs Minister Tjahjo Kumolo; Transportation Minister Budi Karya; Bali Governor I Made Mangku Pastika; President of Interpol Mireille Ballestrazzi; and Secretary General of Interpol Jurgen Stock.
Meanwhile, Karnavian and Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Minister Susi Pudjiastuti were scheduled to be the keynote speakers at the conference.
The National Police chief would share his experience in combating terrorism.
Meanwhile Pudjiastuti would point out a number of cases of illegal fishing in Indonesian waters and their impact on the environment.
Three major themes would be discussed at the meeting namely terrorism, organized crimes and cybercrimes.
The organized crimes, namely human trafficking, money laundering and corruption would also be discussed.
Interpol General Secretariat is located in Lyon, France, and operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
The group also has seven regional offices across the world and representative offices at the United Nations in New York and at the European Union in Brussels. Each of its member countries maintains a National Central Bureau staffed by its own highly trained law enforcement officials.
Its role is to enable police around the world to work together to make the world a safer place. Its high-tech infrastructure of technical and operational support helps meet the growing challenges of fighting crime in the 21st century.
