Balikpapan, E Kalimantan (ANTARA News) - The oil refinery project in Bontang, East Kalimantan, will not be relocated to another province, President Joko Widodo has affirmed.

"When it comes to oil refinery and fertilizer projects, I stress that their location will not be moved to another province. They will remain in East Kalimantan province," the president said, while handing over 1,183 land titles to local residents here on Monday.

The president was responding to a statement by East Kalimantan Governor Awang Faroek Ishak that the people wanted the refinery, with a capacity of 350 barrels per day, to remain in Bontang and not be moved to another region.

"I want to answer what Mr Governor of East Kalimantan has asked.

"When I met him yesterday I answered the question. Now he has again raised the question. If Mr Governor has the intention he will continue (to find its answer)," he said.

The government will go ahead with a plan to construct the Balikpapan-Samarinda toll road and the local administration has given the necessary land clearances for the project, the president revealed.

"Last night, I held a meeting with the public works minister. The first agenda we discussed at the meeting is the construction of Balikpapan-Samarinda toll road. The governor has completed land clearance for it. The realization of the project rests with the ministry. It will be completed by the end of 2018, at the latest," he added.(*)
