President Jokowi and entourage arrived at the Palam Airport of New Delhi at 23:30 local time with Indonesian Ambassador to India Rizali Indrakesuma on hand to welcome him.
From India the Indonesian president would fly to Iran on Wednesday.
During his two-day stay in New Delhi, Jokowi is to hold bilateral talk with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Pranab Mukherjee.
Jokowi is also scheduled to have a meeting with a number of Indian business leaders.
The visits to India and Iran are in return of ones by the Indian Prime Minister to Indonesia in October, 2013 and by Iranian President in April 2015.
The state visits are important as India and Iran are potential trading partners of Indonesia.
India is Indonesias largest trading partner in South Asia and the 4th largest in the world. Trade between the two countries was valued at US$14.45 billion in 2015.
Jokowi would study diversification of Indonesian export commodities to India, and would discuss with Indian leaders expansion of cooperation in investment especially in industry producing pharmaceutical basic materials.
The presidential entourage also includes Coordinating Minister for Economy Darmin Nasution, Minister/State Secretary Pratikno, and head of the Capital Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) Thomas Trikasih Lembong.
