"It has been confirmed that the proposal will be submitted to the DPR today and meet the minimum requirement of 25 supporters from at least two political party factions," Syarief Hasan, deputy general chairman of the party, stated here on Monday.
Hasan said there are 61 Democrat Party members in the DPR, and he believed the Prosperous Justice Party will also submit the same proposal, thus the required number of supporters will be met.
Hasan, who is a member of the Houses Commission I, expressed hope that other party factions would follow suit, as the initiative was aimed at upholding the rule of law, adding that the reappointment had the potential to break the law.
"The law on regional government clearly states that a regional government head must be temporarily dismissed if he becomes a defendant," he stated.
He cited several instances of the case in which the heads of regional governments were dismissed soon after they became defendants.
The same treatment must be applied on Ahok (Basuki Tjahaja Purnama), he stated.
"The government must be consistent in implementing the law," he added.
Hasan was optimistic that the proposal would be immediately processed by the DPR leadership, as all the necessary requirements had been met.(*)
