Of the four polling stations, Karnavian and Iriawan monitored the ones where President Joko Widodo will vote in the Gambir area, Central Jakarta; Vice President Jusuf Kalla in Dharmawangsa, South Jakarta; and former president Megawati Soekarnoputri in Kebagusani.
Before monitoring the polling stations, the Metro Jaya Police chief elaborated on the security situation during the Jakarta regional elections to the National Police chief, chairman of the Election Monitoring Board, chairman of the General Election Commission, and representatives of the Houses Commission II and III.
In the meantime, Metro Jaya Police spokesman Senior Commissioner Argo Yuwono has called on the residents of Jakarta, Tangerang City, and Bekasi District to exercise their right to vote in the simultaneous regional head elections.
Over 40 million eligible voters are expected to visit the polling stations in 101 regions across Indonesia for the regional head elections, or locally called pilkada, on Feb 15, 2017.
A total of 337 pairs of candidates are competing for gubernatorial seats in the seven provinces of Jakarta, Aceh, Banten, Bangka Belitung, Gorontalo, West Papua, and West Sulawesi; mayoral seats in 18 municipalities; and district heads in 76 districts.(*)
