Jakarta (ANTARA News) - A number of supporters of Jakarta gubernatorial election candidate Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono chanted "Agus for President" at a press conference over the election here on Wednesday.

"Agus for President," they said when the son of former president Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono was about to speak at the press conference.

It was not known if the supporters wished Agus would run for president in the 2019 election.

In the press conference Agus did not say if he wished to run for president in 2019.

Flanked by his running mate Sylviana Murni and his campaign team, Agus only responded to the results of the quick counts made by a number of survey institutes.

On the occasion he conceded defeat and congratulated two other pairs that had been his rivals so far.

Agus who is a former army member pledged he would continue personally to give service to the nation and the country.

"Personally in the future I will continue serving to advance the nation and country that I love to achieve the target of making a Golden Age of Indonesia in 2045," he said.

He also called on younger generation to continue to make the best and never be afraid of meeting failures or defeats.

"Do the best as there are still a lot of things the younger generation could do," he said.

Incumbent Jakarta governor Basuki Tjahaja Purnama (Ahok) and vice governor Djarot Saiful Hidayat won the vote on Wednesday according to quick counts by three survey institutes.

"We thank the coalition of parties - PDIP, Golkar, Nasdem and Hanura - that have supported us," he said.

According to the Indonesia Survey Institute (LSI), Polmark and Saiful Mujani Research Center (SMRC), Ahok-Djarot led in the vote, followed by Anies Baswedan-Sandiaga Uno and Agus Harimurti-Sylviana Murni.

Ahok-Djarot won 43,2, 42.3 and 43.2 percent respectively according to LSI, Polmark) and SMRC, while Anies-Sandi collected 39,9, 39,8 and 40,1 percent.

Agus-Silvi garnered 16,9 percent, 18,0 percent and 16,7 percent respectively according to the three survey institutes.

Official results by the Jakarta Election Commission are expected in the next few days that will determine if run-off election has to be held to decide the winner.(*)
