"The preparation phase has been completed. The groundbreaking ceremony is scheduled to be held on Mar 10 this year," he informed ANTARA in Kupang, Monday.
He further stated that the factory will have a production capacity of 1.5 million metric tons per year, and the construction will take approximately three years, from the land-clearing process, designing phase, and the development itself.
At the moment, Kupangs cement production capacity from the Kupang Cement Factory I and II is 300 thousand metric tons per year, and the governor believes that once the new factory becomes operational, the citys annual production capacity will reach 1.8 million metric tons.
The factory was initially to be named PT Semen Indonesia, but the governor requested for the citys name to also be included, so that it can still be associated with the existing factories, which are "Kupang I" and "Kupang II," he revealed.
"I want to include the name of the city (in the companys name) to also remind the people of Kupang that they have large factories here," he pointed out.
The Semen Kupang Indonesia factory will be built in the Bolok Industrial District, with an investment of Rp2 trillion.
The industrial unit, which is the result of the partnership between PT Semen Indonesia and PT Semen Kupang, will produce enough quantity to meet both domestic and export demands.(*)
