Adkerson stated in a press conference in Jakarta on Monday that he appreciated Chappys work during his tenure in office.
"I would like to express my appreciation towards Mr. Chappy. Even though he decided to resign, he will still act as our senior adviser," he noted.
Adkerson admitted that he was proud and happy to have been able to work with the Air Force retiree, stressing that there were no disputes or problems that occurred during his tenure in PT Freeport Indonesia.
"Although the position is challenging, time consuming, and has a lot of issues, I would like to stress that nothing went wrong here," he remarked.
PT Freeport Indonesia had previously announced the resignation of Chappy from his position as the companys President Director and his return to the previous commission as the companys adviser.
"It has been an honor for me to act as the President Director of PT Freeport Indonesia, and I have nothing but respect for the company and its talented team members," Chappy said in a press statement released by Freeport Indonesia in Jakarta on Feb 18.
Serving as President Director requires an immense time commitment and I have decided, for the welfare of the company and my family, that I would resign from the position and continue my dedication to the company as an adviser, he stated.
Chappy, who is an Air Force Marshall retiree, was appointed as the President Director of PT Freeport Indonesia in Nov last year, after acing as senior adviser in the copper and gold mining company, located in Papua, since Aug 2016.
The rather sudden resignation also happened to coincide with the dispute for change in PT Freeports operation permit status from Contract of Work to Special Mining Operations Permit.
Freeport had also called for the nail down tax regime and for the divestment to be lower than 51 percent.
Meanwhile, the state regulation in Indonesia requires taxation regimes to follow the prevailing rules and portion the divestment for 51 percent.
On Feb 9, it was reported that Chappy was involved in an incident with one of the members of Commission VII from the House of Representatives after a meeting with the commission.
Chappys predecessor Maroef Sjamsoeddin also resigned from the President Director position in Jan last year.
Maroef, who is a former Deputy Head of the National Intelligence Agency, submitted his resignation in the midst of a scandal involving a voice recording, that is now known as the Papa minta saham (Papa asks for shares) case.(*)
