"This year, Indonesia had sent a contingent of 14 participants who won 22 medals," Chairman of the Indonesian Memory Sports Council Yudi Lesmana stated here on Tuesday.
Competing in the junior category, Fakhri, a student of the State Senior High School 26 Jakarta, took home eight medals comprising one gold, five silver, and two bronze, followed by Fatima Aiko, a student of the Salman Alfarisi Junior High School in Bandung City, West Java Province, who won four medals comprising one gold, two silver, and one bronze.
Shafa Annisa, a student of the Kesatuan Bangsa State Junior High School in Yogyakarta Province, bagged three bronze medals.
In the adult category, a total of three medals comprising two silver and a bronze were also won by the team leader Yudi Lesmana.
In addition, each of the four other team members took home a bronze medal: Rayyan Hanif, a student of the Nurul Fikri Junior High School in Depok City, West Java Province; Rifda Almira and Hanifa Khalillah, students of the Edu Global Senior High School in Bandung City in West Java Province; and Aulia Nadia, a student of the Sinar Cendikia Elementary School in Tangerang City, Banten Province.
A total of 184 participants from 12 countries took part in the championship that featured 10 types of games, each five minutes long, to remember faces and names, the order of random words, sequence of random binary numbers, sequence of random numbers, and sequence of random images, as well as 15 minutes to remember random numbers, 10 minutes to recollect the order of shuffled bridge cards, and five minutes to remember years and events, recall the random numbers being pronounced in an interval of one second per point, and remember as soon as possible a deck of 52 playing cards, which has been shuffled.
"All the 10 different games aim to hone and sharpen an individuals concentration and memory capability, so it can be said that the participants boost their brainpower in the competitions," he remarked.
The record achievements in the games were also demonstrated by Indonesian representatives, Fakhri who was able to recall 660 digits of random binary numbers and 58 events and years in five minutes; Aiko who was able to remember 60 sequences of random words in five minutes; Annisa who managed to remember 166 sequences of cards in 10 minutes; and Yudi Lesmana who was able to remember 188 digits of spoken numbers within 188 seconds.
"The results of the championship proved that the brainpower of Indonesian children cannot be underestimated. Even with the governments limited support, the Indonesian memory sports team managed to shine in the eyes of the world and was able to introduce Indonesias strength to the world," he added.(*)
