Palembang (ANTARA News) - Vice President M. Jusuf Kalla will review the development of facilities and supporting infrastructure to host the 2018 Asian Games in Palembang, South Sumatra, early next month.

Regional Government and Peoples Welfare Assistant at South Sumatras Regional Government Secretariat Akhmad Najib stated here on Tuesday that at a meeting held in Jakarta recently, the vice president had reviewed the development of all facilities for the upcoming grand sports festival.

The vice president has been reviewing the facilities in Jakarta and has planned to observe those in South Sumatra early in April.

Hence, he held a coordination meeting to review the progress in construction and improvement of facilities and infrastructure being prepared for the Asian Games to be attended by 45 countries.

The coordination meeting discussed the visit of the vice president, including the development of facilities for the games, among others.

He noted that based on monitoring and reports, the construction of sports facilities in Palembangs Jakabaring is going ahead according to the planned schedule.

Rowing facilities and those for hosting shooting and other sports are being readied based on the planned stages.

The construction of the light rail project is also going ahead as per plan and is expected be completed on time.

South Sumatra is ready to host the games, as the province has regularly organized international sports events.

South Sumatra has successfully hosted the SEA Games, ASEAN School Games, and other international events, hence the infrastructure is already available.
