Jakarta (ANTARA News) - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) will invite former United States president Barack Obama for a luncheon at the Bogor Palace by the end of this month.

"The president has invited Obama to have lunch at the Bogor Palace on June 30," presidential spokesman Johan Budi said here on Tuesday.

In addition to meeting Jokowi, the 44th president of the US is scheduled to deliver a keynote speech in the opening session of the 4th Congress of Indonesian Diaspora held by the Indonesian Diaspora Network Global (IDNG) on July 1.

Chairman of the Board of Trustees IDNG, Dino Patti Djalal, noted that Obama's keynote address will be his first speech in Asia after reportedly delivering a private paid speech during a visit to Italy.

According to Dino, Obama is visiting Indonesia after an invitation from Jokowi for a vacation in the archipelago.

Obama has traveled to several countries, including Italy and Germany, since leaving office last Jan.

Last week, Obama and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau made headlines after Trudeau posted a photo on Facebook of them sharing a meal in a restaurant in Montreal, Canada.

The New York Times reported that Obama will travel to South Korea in July, where he plans to see former South Korean president Lee Myung-bak. (*)
