Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Major General (Ret) Basofi Soedirman, East Java governor during the 1993-1998 period, passed away at the age of 77, here, Monday.

He was being treated at the Medistra hospital.

Basofis son, Charis Firismanda, confirmed his death on Facebook, and added that he would be buried in the public cemetery, San Diego Hills in Kerawang District, West Java, Tuesday (Aug. 8).

According to his family, prior to getting medical treatment in Medistra hospital, Basofi was treated at the Abdi Waluyo hospital in Jakarta and in a hospital in Singapore.

Basofi was deputy governor of Jakarta during the 1987-1992 period. From 1986 to 1987, Basofi was head of staff at the Bukit Barisan Regional Military Command in Medan, North Sumatra.

During his term of service as governor, Basovi composed a Dangdut song titled "Not All Men."

Basofi is survived by a wife, a daugther and two sons.(*)
