Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati said goods, the import of which are banned or restricted, would be reduced in tariff categories to only 2,200 or 20 percent of around 10,826 codes of harmonized system (HS) .

"Goods banned or restricted will be only around 20 percent of the entire goods of almost 11,000 codes of HS," Sri Mulyani said after a coordinating meeting on economy here Tuesday.

The minister said the policy is to reduce the burden of the Customs and Excise office in good control and examination.

In addition the policy is to speed up the flows of goods at port especially basic materials or capital goods needed by small business players.

Currently , goods the imports of which are banned or restricted are around 48 percent of 10,826 of goods in codes of HS.

Sri Mulyani said all economic ministers agreed with the policy, adding,"hopefully the regulation is effective as from February 1 this year."

She said there are still 72 ministerial regulation that need revision to pave the way for the policy to improve productivity.
