Tegal, C. Java (ANTARA News) - President Joko Widodo has reiterated his call for the public to preserve brotherhood despite their different choices to be made in the regional elections in 2018.

"Lest we lose our unity because of different votes. Do not be divided because of different political view. The regent has said, it`s okay to have different political choice but don`t ruin our brotherhood," Joko Widodo or Jokowi as he popularly known said here on Monday.

Jokowi has delivered land certificates to 4,999 land owners in Dukuh Salam of Tegal district.

Also present at the occasion are Minister of Agrarian Affairs and Spatial Planning/Head of the National Land Agency Sofyan Djalil, Public Works and Housing Minister Basuki Hadimuljono, Central Java Governor Ganjar Pranowo, and Tegal Regent Enthus Susmono.

"Because in Central Java, there will be, how many local elections? Seven elections in Central Java, and 171 across Indonesia," the President added.

He expressed hope that the five-yearly event would not damage unity in the society.

"This year there will be 171 regional elections in provinces, districts, cities throughout Indonesia. I call on people, do not ruin your unity because of the elections," he said.

The elections, he continued, would only be held five yearly, and people should vote their best leaders and return to their harmonious life after that.

At the occasion, the president has delivered 5,500 land certificates, 500 certificates for land owners in Tegal municipality, Tegal district (3,000 certificates), Pemalang district (1,000 certificates), and Brebes district (1,000 certificates).

In 2017, the government has issued 800 thousands land certificates in Central Java, and is targeted to issue 1.2 million certificates by 2018.

"I know that many BPN officials could not sleep well, they work on Saturday-Sunday, I know that, and I appreciate it. But the certificates must be held by its owner soon," the President noted.

The certificate would become a legal evidence to avoid dispute over land ownership.

"Name and area would be stated, so that no one could file legal suit (against its ownership), because it is the legal rights over land," the President said.
