The Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs tweeted on Tuesday that it was the first ASEAN Foreign Ministers Retreat during Singapore`s chairmanship in ASEAN this year, with a theme of "A Resilient and Innovative ASEAN."
ASEAN foreign ministers in Singapore discussed drafts of documents, which will be discussed by the ASEAN leaders during the ASEAN Summit in April.
The ministers also discussed strengthening of regional architecture, which was based on the spirit of cooperation and respect to the international law.
During the ASEAN FM Retreat, Marsudi conveyed the support of ASEAN member states for Indonesia`s bid as non-permanent member of UN Security Council in 2019-2020.
Previously, during a press briefing in Jakarta on Thursday (Feb 1), the Director of Politics and Security of ASEAN of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Chandra Widya Yudha, stated that the ASEAN Ministerial Meeting Retreat, held in Singapore from Feb 4 to 6, would discuss several agenda, including the follow-up of the 31st ASEAN Summit in Manila and priorities of Singapore chairmanship in ASEAN, which is summarized in the ASEAN Leaders Vision for a resilient and innovative ASEAN.
"The ASEAN Leaders Vision includes several priorities of Singapore`s chairmanship and implementation of the ASEAN Vision 2025," Yudha noted.
During the AMM Retreat, Indonesia highlighted several issues, including the establishment of ASEAN extradition treaty instrument to facilitate strong legal cooperation between ASEAN member states, especially in combating transnational crimes.
Indonesia also emphasized the importance of ASEAN-China to achieve substantive and significant progress on the negotiation of the Code of Conduct on the South China Sea, which includes the framework agreed by ASEAN-China ministers last year and the importance of unity, centrality, and leadership of ASEAN amid the developing and dynamic regional architectures.
Indonesia has also encouraged the designing of an action plan for the implementation of ASEAN Consensus on the Protection and Promotion of the Rights of Migrant Workers.
